5 Tricks That Can Help Cut Down Your Travel Expenditure

It doesn’t take much time for anyone who is planning a trip to realize that traveling is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Many people on limited budgets end up postponing trips indefinitely when they realize just how heavy a burden travel is on their wallet. Contrary to popular opinion, however, traveling does not have to cost an arm and a leg. If you are able to adjust your travel habits, you could cut down your travel expenditure significantly. We have identified five tricks that can help you realize your dreams of traveling the world without having to spend excessively.

1. Find alternative accommodation
Even if you pick a hotel that does not even boast itself to be luxurious, you’ll still find yourself digging deep in your wallet every night. Gone are the days when you have to spend exorbitant amounts of money on accommodation in foreign lands. Traveling like a student is a great way to cut down your travel expenditure since you can take advantage of cheap student lodges and avail incredible discounts. Many student travel websites extend their phenomenal discounts to non-students, so even if you’re not currently in school, you can still avail great offers.

2. Save on hotels
If you do still want the hotel experience, that doesn’t mean you can’t still save money on accommodation. There are plenty of websites that offer special rates for select hotels, so once you’ve finalized where you ideally want to stay, make sure you do some research to make sure you are getting the best deal for your room. Instead of booking hotel rooms individually, you can also look at vacation packages. You might be able to find a great deal.

3. Keep flexible traveling dates
Airfares do not just vary season-wise, but also date-wise. If you are looking to travel, try to keep your dates as flexible as possible so that you can get the cheapest tickets available. Try to research what the peak-season is for the place you’re visiting, so that you can try avoiding it. Hotels tend to be significantly more expensive when there are more tourists around, as do airfares and general price levels. A great time to travel cheap is a week after major holidays.

4. Don’t waste money roaming
Just because you’re roaming the world doesn’t mean your mobile phone network needs to do the same. Make sure you do not use roaming since the last thing you would want is to go back and realize your vacation was twice as costly as you thought thanks to the phone bill in your mailbox. There are countless apps you can download to communicate with your loved ones back home through WiFi.

5 .Use the right credit cards
Although credit cards add a great deal of convenience to your trip, not having the right kind of credit card can cost you a significant amount of money. Most American credit cards charge a 3% fee for any transactions that is not made in U.S. dollars. If you’re traveling abroad, try getting hold of a card that doesn’t charge this extra fee since it can work itself to be a significant sum of money. Also try finding a credit card that gets you discounts on the hotel and ticket prices.
