In wider terms, Civil Engineers work as construction engineers, transportation engineers, hydraulic and irrigation engineers, geotechnical engineers, environmental engineers, and public works engineers. You can make plans for the benefit of a city and its outskirts with your public utility structures. A lot of civil services aspirants prepare and give exams of UPSC and most of them are engineers. Civil services are one of the golden opportunities to bring a change around you. There are two stages of the UPSC examination, the first is the Preliminary and the second is the Mains. It is one of the world’s most difficult examinations.

Private Firm

After M. Tech in Civil Engineering, you can also go for your private construction firm. The sky is the limit when you decide to work as a private firm because in this fast-growing world there is always a need for construction services to make new infrastructures and also to maintain the old ones so that they stay durable for a long time. You can take private and public contracts to build residential as well as commercial buildings. You can also take government contracts to build roads, bridges, dams, and other infrastructures. All you need is a good knowledge of the construction factors and appropriate skills to build robust structures. You can hire other civil engineers and interior designers for your firm.

Indian Armed Forces

This is your chance to serve the nation. Indian Armed Forces have three branches. The

Indian Army secures the land. Secondly, the Indian Navy to secure naval borders. And finally, the Indian Air Force to secure airspace. After completing your M.Tech, joining any one of these forces is a great option. For the Indian Army, an engineer has to qualify for TGC or SSC tech entry schemes. One has to go through the SNAES exam for the Indian Navy. For Indian Air Force, one has to qualify for the AFCAT scheme. Civil Engineers play a vital role in military services. They are responsible for the planning and construction of the road borders of the country, building bunkers during wartime, and proper locations on the battlefield. They also build houses & offices for army people. The average salary of civil engineers in the Indian Army is 12- 15 lakh per year along with the benefits which could vary with post & responsibilities.

Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)

A person with a desire to work with handsome pay should try to get a job in PSUs. After completing your M.Tech course in civil engineer and then clearing the GATE can make your dreams come true. To get a job in the government sector such as PSU you need to get a very good score in the GATE exam. Every year various PSUs hire new aspirants through their GATE score. Working in PSUs is a good & reputed job with pretty good pay. Government jobs have multiple benefits. You have complete job security, even retirement benefits, and other benefits. Also, you get Dearness Allowance, Bonuses, and Medical benefits.

Private Consulting Work

Civil engineers can consult about the structure of homes in the neighborhood, against a suitable amount of fee for a consultation.

Map Designing

Civil engineers can design maps for homes and commercial buildings in the city. They can charge a specific amount of money as a side income.
